Rita Heikenfeld's Immune Boosting Granola

Made with wheat germand sunflower seeds for vitamin E, dried apricots for beta carotene and soynuts which may help prevent cancer. Oats help lower cholesterol and nuts are animportant part of a healthy immune system. Honey is a natural sweetener,already predigested, for energy.

Mix together:

5 cups old fashionedrolled oats
2 cups nuts, onebeing 1 cup slivered almonds, the other your choice
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup sunflowerseeds, unsalted and hulled
3/4 cup wheat germ

OR EVEN EASIER:

1 bag Bob’s Red Mill5 Grain Rolled Whole Grain Hot Cereal With Flax

Mix this with 2 cupsnuts, one being 1 cup slivered almonds, the other your choice (this dry cerealalready contains wheat and flax seeds plus rye, barley and tritcale, all greathealthy grains).

Blend together:

If you like a sweetergranola, add more syrup or honey

1/2 cup Olive oil
1/2 cup Pure maplesyrup, agave syrup or honey
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon vanilla

Add after baking:
1 cup ea: goldenraisins and dried chopped apricots or dates
(You can buy datesalready chopped)
2 cups dried cherriesor cranberries
1/2 cup soy nuts(opt)

Pour liquidingredients over oat mixture. Stir until coated. Spread on sprayed cookiesheets. Bake at 275 for 45-60 minutes or so, or until mixture is golden brownand crunchy, stirring occasionally. Cool completely. Add fruit and mix well.Store in covered containers at room temperature up to a month. Makes a generous 10 cups.
